Over 60,000 food parcels donated in Mombasa amid Covid-19

The I&M bank has donated to the County Government of Mombasa, food items worth Ksh1 million, while the East Africa Tea Traders Association (EATTA) has donated food items worth Ksh1.1 million to the same county government in an effort to cushion residents from the tough times brought about by the coronavirus.

The Mombasa County Emergency Household Relief and Nutrition Support Project Committee chairman Abdul Samji, said so far, the committee has donated over 60,000 food parcels to registered needy families with each food parcel being able to sustain a family for a period of one month.

At a press briefing that was attended by Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo, it was revealed that plans are already in place to ensure businesses reopen across Mombasa County, immediately the government announces resumption of normal life.

Kitiyo noted that the respective committee is working round the clock to ensure work is done.
