President Kenyatta makes major changes to the Kenyan military

President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces on Friday made promotions and appointments of the Officers of the Kenya Defence Forces on the advice of the Defence Council under the chairpersonship of Ambassador Raychelle Omamo, the Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Defence as indicated below:
Promotions and Appointments
1. Lieutenant General Robert Kariuki Kibochi – posted to Defence Headquarters and appointed Vice Chief of Defence Forces.
2. Major General Walter Raria Koipaton – promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed Commander of the Kenya Army.
3. Major General Samuel Nganga Thuita – promoted to Lieutenant General.
4. Maj Gen Thomas Chepkuto – posted to Headquarters Kenya Army and appointed Deputy Army Commander.
5. Maj Gen Benjamin Biwott – posted to Western Command and appointed General Officer Commanding Western Command.
6. Brigadier Francis Omondi Ogolla – promoted to Major General and appointed the Commander
Kenya Air Force.
7. Brigadier Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed – promoted to Major General and appointed Assistant Chief
of the Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics.
8. Brigadier Ayub Matiiri – promoted to Major General and appointed General Officer Commanding Eastern Command.
9. Brigadier Patrick Abel Amogola – promoted to Major General and appointed General Officer in charge of Special Projects at the Defence Headquarters.
10. Brigadier J M Kivunzi – posted to Mariakani Garrison and appointed Commander.
11. Brigadier S M Wachira – posted to HQ Kenya Air Force and appointed Deputy Commander Kenya Air Force.
12. Brigadier Mohamed Badi – posted to Defence Staff College and appointed Deputy Commandant/Chief Instructor.
13. Brigadier Vincent Loonena Naisho – posted to Defence Headquarters and appointed Managing Director Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme.
14. Brigadier Eric Mbugua Kinuthia – posted to Defence Headquarters and appointed Chief of Strategic Plans and Policy.
15. Colonel Mohamed Nur Hassan – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief Compensation and Welfare Defence Headquarters.
16. Colonel George Esekon Ejalany – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commandant Defence Forces Memorial Hospital.
17. Colonel Mungai Ndung’u Nyaga – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander 8 Brigade.
18. Colonel Peter Muteti – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Deputy Commandant/Chief Instructor, Kenya Military Academy.
19. Colonel Jeremiah Ongwenyi Maroko – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Provost at the Defence Headquarters.
20. Colonel Fredrick Leuria – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Deputy Director Military Intelligence at the Defence Headquarters.
21. Colonel Peter Njiru – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commandant, Recruits Training School.
22. Colonel Joseph Asuna Ouda – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander Engineers Brigade.
23. Colonel (Dr) George Kiguta Ng’ang’a – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Medical at the Defence Headquarters.
24. Colonel Peter Nyamu Githinji – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander Moi Air Base.
25. Col J M Omenda – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander Laikipia Air Base.
26. Colonel William Chara Kombe – promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe.
In the current promotions, Brigadier Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed was promoted to the rank of Major General, becoming the first female Officer of the rank of Major General.
Equally, the President appointed several more female Officers to various ranks and appointments in line with the government policy on gender inclusion in the Defence Forces.
